Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About Palladium Electrics

What electrical services do you offer?

We’re a Gold Coast electrical and CCTV business. We do general electrical work, CCTV installation, security and intercom systems, smoke alarms, switchboard upgrades, EV chargers, data and network cabling, lighting, and emergency electrical repairs — for homes, businesses, and body corporates.

How long has Palladium Electrics been operating?

We’re an established local Gold Coast business with years of hands-on experience across residential, commercial, and body corporate work.

Is Palladium Electrics a local Gold Coast business?

Yes. We’re based on the Gold Coast and exclusively service the region — we’re not a Brisbane operator driving down for jobs.

What areas of the Gold Coast do you service?

We cover the entire Gold Coast — from Coomera, Helensvale, and Pacific Pines in the north, through Southport, Robina, Broadbeach Waters, Burleigh Heads, and Palm Beach, down to Currumbin and Coolangatta.

Do you handle residential electrical work?

Yes. We do everything from a single power point through to full home rewires, renovations, and new builds.

Do you handle commercial electrical work?

Yes. We work with retail shops, cafes, offices, warehouses, and body corporates across the Gold Coast.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes. We’re a fully licensed Queensland electrical contractor and hold the security licences required for CCTV and alarm work. We carry public liability and contractor’s insurance and can provide a Certificate of Currency on request.

What makes Palladium Electrics different from other electricians?

We do both electrical and CCTV under one roof, which means you don’t have to juggle two trades on jobs that overlap — like wiring power for new cameras or running data cabling for security systems. We also stick to a fixed-price quote model, so the price you’re given is the price you pay.

What guarantees do you offer on your work?

All our workmanship is covered by warranty, and hardware (cameras, switchboards, smoke alarms, EV chargers) is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. We help you claim it if anything goes wrong.

CCTV & Security

Do you install CCTV cameras?

Yes — CCTV is one of our main services. We design and install systems for homes, businesses, body corporates, and rental properties across the Gold Coast.

How many cameras do I need for my home?

Most Gold Coast homes are covered well by four to six cameras — front door, back door, side gates, driveway, and a yard overview. Larger properties may need more. We confirm the right number during the site visit.

Can I watch my CCTV cameras on my phone?

Yes. Every system we install comes with a phone app for iOS and Android so you can view live and recorded footage from anywhere. We set up the app on your phone as part of the install.

Do CCTV cameras work at night?

Yes. All cameras we install have infrared night vision, and many also have low-light colour recording for clearer evening footage.

Will my CCTV record sound?

Outdoor cameras have audio disabled by default to stay within Queensland surveillance laws. Audio can be enabled in cases where it’s legal, like doorbell cameras or interior business cameras with the right signage.

Is it legal to install CCTV at my home in Queensland?

Yes, CCTV is legal on your own property. Cameras must be aimed at your property only — they can’t point into a neighbour’s backyard or windows. We position cameras during installation to keep you on the right side of the law.

Can my CCTV cameras film over the fence into my neighbour’s yard?

No. Cameras that capture a neighbour’s private areas can lead to complaints and may need to be repositioned. We angle cameras during installation so they only cover your property.

How long is CCTV footage kept for?

Most systems hold 30 to 60 days of continuous footage on a standard hard drive. Motion-only recording stretches storage well beyond that.

Can I see my cameras when I’m overseas?

Yes. As long as your home internet is working, you can view live footage from anywhere in the world through the app.

Do I need internet for my CCTV to work?

No — recording works without internet because footage saves to a local hard drive. Internet is only needed if you want remote viewing, alerts on your phone, or cloud backup.

Can my CCTV system be hacked?

Any internet-connected device has some risk, which is why we install reputable IP cameras, secure the system with proper passwords, and update default settings. The cheap no-name systems sold online are the ones that usually get compromised.

Do you install wireless CCTV cameras?

We can, but we recommend cabled (POE) cameras for any permanent install. Wireless cameras drop out, run flat, and don’t last like cabled systems. Wireless is fine for renters or temporary setups only.

Do you upgrade old CCTV systems?

Yes. We replace outdated cameras, upgrade recorders, and overhaul old analogue setups with modern IP systems.

Do you repair CCTV systems that have stopped working?

Yes. We diagnose camera, cabling, recorder, and remote-access faults. If the system is too old to repair economically, we’ll be upfront and recommend upgrade options rather than charging for repairs that won’t last.

What’s the difference between analogue and IP CCTV?

IP cameras run on network cable and deliver much higher resolution, smarter features, and easier remote access. Analogue is the older technology and we no longer recommend it for new installs.

Can you install CCTV at my business?

Yes. We install commercial CCTV for retail shops, cafes, restaurants, warehouses, and offices, including systems that meet liquor licence requirements.

Can you install CCTV at my apartment or unit?

Yes. Cameras inside your apartment are straightforward. Cameras in common hallways, carparks, or external walls need body corporate approval first — we can help with the approval process.

Can I install CCTV at my Airbnb or rental property?

Yes. For short-stay rentals, cameras can only be installed outdoors at entry points and must be disclosed to guests. We make sure your setup follows platform rules and Queensland privacy law.

Will CCTV actually stop a break-in?

Visible cameras are a strong deterrent — most opportunistic thieves will skip a property with cameras and try one without. CCTV won’t physically stop someone determined to break in, but it gives police and insurance the evidence they need if something does happen.

Do you install video doorbells and intercoms?

Yes. We install standalone video intercoms, doorbell cameras, and full apartment-block intercom systems.

Do you install security alarms?

Yes. We install alarm systems and can integrate them with CCTV so cameras and alarms work together — alerts on your phone, cameras triggered by alarm events.

Do you install motion sensor lights?

Yes. Sensor lighting around entry points and side paths is one of the cheapest and most effective security upgrades you can make.

Do you service CCTV systems you didn’t install?

Yes, where possible. We work on most brands of IP CCTV. If the system is a very old or no-name brand with limited parts, we’ll let you know up front.

Do you offer CCTV maintenance plans?

Yes. We can arrange scheduled servicing for businesses and body corporates — cleaning cameras, checking footage, updating firmware, and making sure everything’s recording correctly.

Electrical Services

Do you offer emergency electrical services?

Yes. We respond to urgent electrical jobs across the Gold Coast — sparking outlets, burning smells, sudden power loss, switchboard faults, and safety switch problems.

How quickly can you respond to an urgent job?

We prioritise urgent calls and aim to get to most jobs the same day. Call 0433 060 674 for the fastest response.

Can you install smoke alarms to meet QLD regulations?

Yes. Queensland law requires interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all rental properties, properties being sold, and homes built or renovated since 2017. We install and interconnect alarms to current legislation.

How often should smoke alarms be replaced?

Every 10 years. The expiry date is printed on the back of each alarm.

Do you install EV chargers?

Yes. We install single-phase and three-phase EV chargers for homes and businesses, including all Energex notification paperwork.

Can my EV charger work with my solar?

Yes, if the charger supports solar matching. We’ll recommend the right model and configure it to charge from your excess solar where possible.

Do you do switchboard upgrades?

Yes. Older switchboards with ceramic fuses, no safety switches, or limited capacity for modern appliances often need upgrading — and become a real safety risk if left. We inspect and quote upgrades only when actually needed.

Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

Usually a faulty appliance, water in a circuit, or a deeper wiring fault. Repeated tripping needs a licensed electrician to investigate — don’t keep resetting it.

Why are my lights flickering?

Common causes include loose connections, ageing wiring, overloaded circuits, or a failing switchboard. Worth getting checked rather than ignored.

Can I do my own electrical work in Queensland?

No. All electrical work in QLD must be done by a licensed electrician — including things people often assume are DIY-safe, like replacing power points or wiring a ceiling fan. DIY electrical work is illegal, voids your home insurance, and carries serious safety risks.

Do you install ceiling fans and exhaust fans?

Yes. We install and replace ceiling fans, bathroom exhaust fans, and rangehoods.

Do you install LED lighting and downlights?

Yes. We do downlights, garden lighting, security lighting, pendants, and full home or business lighting upgrades.

Do you install power points and extra outlets?

Yes. Adding power points, USB outlets, outdoor power, and rewiring rooms is everyday work for us.

Do you do data cabling and network points?

Yes. We run Cat6 data cabling for home offices, CCTV systems, smart home devices, and business networks.

Do you offer energy-efficient or eco-friendly electrical options?

Yes. Switching to LED lighting, installing smart switches and sensors, upgrading to efficient appliances, and integrating solar-matched EV charging are all options we work with regularly to reduce your power bill.

Quotes, Bookings & Service Visits

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all jobs.

Are your quotes fixed price?

Yes. Once we’ve seen the job, you get a fixed-price quote — no surprises and no hidden extras added on later.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

We discuss any call-out fees with you up front when you book — no hidden charges added afterwards. For most quoted work, the call-out is included.

How do I book a service?

Call us on 0433 060 674 or email admin@palladiumelectrics.com to discuss your job and arrange a time. For bigger jobs we’ll arrange a site visit first so the quote is accurate.

What should I expect during a service visit?

Our electrician arrives in uniform, talks through the job with you, completes the work, tests everything, and tidies up before leaving. You’ll be given a Certificate of Electrical Safety for any electrical work.

Do you arrive on time?

We aim to. If we’re running behind because of an earlier job, we’ll call to let you know — we don’t leave you waiting around.

Do you clean up after the job?

Yes. Cabling offcuts, packaging, and rubbish all leave with us. Your site is left tidy.

Do you have a shopfront?

No. We operate as a mobile service across the Gold Coast — we come to you. All quotes, site visits, and installs happen at your property.

What is your phone number?

0433 060 674 — call or text.

What is your email address? admin@palladiumelectrics.com

What’s the best way to contact you?

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer and card payments. Payment details are included on your invoice.

Are you involved in the local Gold Coast community?

Yes. We’re a locally based business and proud to support the Gold Coast community we live and work in.
